Skip it for any setup involving a modern monitor. If your monitor has HDMI or DisplayPort, you have no reason to use a VGA KVM - you would be converting signals and losing quality. Skip it if you need 1080p@60Hz with reliable colour accuracy - VGA at 1080p over cable length is not as clean as HDMI. Skip it if you want USB 3.0 passthrough or audio switching.
