iMount IM-4: Entry-Level Arm That Earns Its Keep

The iMount IM-4 runs ₹1,799–2,099 on Amazon India, putting it at the very bottom of monitor arms I would consider recommending. Below this price, quality control becomes inconsistent enough that the purchase becomes a gamble. The IM-4 is at the floor, and it functions - with caveats.

What ₹1,800–2,100 Buys You

A friction-joint arm with two pivot points and a C-clamp. The VESA head adjusts tilt manually and connects to 75x75 or 100x100 mm patterns. That is the full feature list. There is no gas spring, no cable management beyond a single pole clip, and no grommet mount option - C-clamp only.

The build is functional. The arm is metal, not plastic, which is the minimum I want to see on anything clamping to a desk and holding a monitor. At 6 kg maximum load, the IM-4 is sized for monitors up to about 24 inches comfortably. A 27-inch panel that weighs 5–5.5 kg is at the limit, and friction joints at their load limit tend to creep downward over time as the tension screws loosen under sustained weight.

Best Use Case

The IM-4 works best for a light monitor (22–24 inch, under 5 kg) in a fixed position. If you set the arm's angle once at installation and rarely change it, the friction joints hold adequately. This is the use case of someone who wants to raise their monitor to eye level and push it back slightly - and then leave it there for months.

Where It Falls Short

Six kilograms is the rated limit, but I would not push beyond 5 kg given the friction joint design and budget construction. At heavier weights, the arm's joints will work loose faster. Once a friction joint loses its bite, the arm drifts, and retightening becomes a recurring maintenance task.

Cable management is a single clip at the pole base. Cables run freely along the arm otherwise. Not a functional problem, but visually messy unless you add your own cable ties.

India Desk Reality

C-clamp range is 10–60 mm. The hollow desk warning applies here equally. The IM-4 is not somehow safer on a hollow desk than more expensive arms - the physics of clamping force and cantilever load are the same regardless of arm price. Solid desk, always.

Desk depth of 50 cm is sufficient for the IM-4's arm length.

Who Should Buy

Budget-constrained users who need to raise a light monitor (under 5 kg) to a better ergonomic position and are willing to set it once and leave it. Students, entry-level home office setups, secondary screens in a multi-monitor arrangement where the primary arm is something better.

Who Should Skip

Heavy monitors (27-inch curved panels, 32-inch anything), frequent adjusters, anyone with a hollow desk, and anyone who expects this to feel polished. The IM-4 does the job, but you will notice the quality ceiling every time you handle it.

For ₹1,799–2,099, managed expectations make this a reasonable buy. Do not expect a ₹5,000 experience from a ₹2,000 arm.
