Alienware AW2725DM Review India: 180Hz 1440p IPS at ₹24,999 — Premium Price, Premium Build?
Alienware AW2725DM: You're Paying for the Badge — And That's Not Entirely a Bad Thing
The Alienware AW2725DM at ₹24,999–26,999 occupies a strange position. It's priced similarly to the LG 27GP850-B but runs at 180Hz instead of 165Hz — a difference that's functionally meaningless. So what are you actually paying for?
Panel & Performance
The IPS panel in the AW2725DM is competent. Color accuracy is solid for gaming and light creative work, the 1440p resolution at 27" is sharp, and 180Hz is smooth in practice. The jump from 165Hz to 180Hz is imperceptible to essentially everyone — this is not a spec that moved me.
Where the AW2725DM does earn its money is in hardware execution. The stand is exceptional — full height, tilt, swivel, and pivot adjustment. Cable management channels are thoughtful. The monitor feels built to last, not built to hit a price point. The OSD controls are responsive and the menu is well-organized.
The panel covers around 95% DCI-P3, which is genuinely good and puts it in Nano IPS territory for practical color performance. It's one of the better IPS panels in this price range for color fidelity without venturing into OLED territory.
G-Sync Compatible and FreeSync Premium Pro certifications both check out. The monitor works well with both GPU brands in VRR scenarios.
India Availability & Value
Alienware in India is sold through Dell's distribution network, which means you can buy from Amazon India, Flipkart, and Dell's own website. Croma carries Alienware in physical stores if you want to see it in person before buying. MDComputers and PrimeABGB occasionally stock it.
The 3-year warranty with Alienware's Advanced Exchange service is a genuine differentiator. If your panel develops a fault, Dell typically cross-ships a replacement before picking up the defective unit. In India, where warranty service can be unreliable, this matters.
At ₹24,999–26,999, you're paying a ₹1,000–2,000 premium over the LG 27GP850-B for marginally better panel quality, a significantly better stand, and better post-purchase service. Whether that premium makes sense depends on your priorities.
Who Should Buy This
Buy this if build quality and ergonomics matter — if you're at your desk for 8+ hours a day and need proper monitor ergonomics, the stand alone justifies a price premium. Also a smart buy if you're in a city with unreliable local service centers — the Advanced Exchange warranty is worth real money in that scenario.
Skip it if: You're optimizing purely for gaming performance per rupee. The LG 27GP850-B matches or slightly beats it on panel performance for less money. Also skip if you're expecting the Alienware aesthetic to carry the room — it's actually quite subtle at this non-OLED tier, nothing like the AW2725D OLED's visual impact.
Questions
The AW2725D is the OLED version — dramatically better contrast, faster response, and a ₹30,000+ premium over the DM. The DM is the conventional IPS version. They share design DNA but are entirely different monitors for different budgets and use cases.
Dell's service in India has improved significantly. In my experience and from community reports, the Advanced Exchange process works in major cities. Tier-2 cities may involve courier logistics rather than same-city swap, but it still beats most competitors' warranty processes.
No. The 15Hz difference is invisible in normal use. If you're comparing this monitor to 165Hz alternatives, evaluate everything else and don't let the Hz figure influence your decision.
