The M2 NVMe USB 3.1 case is a straightforward 10 Gbps enclosure using the JMicron JMS583 or similar bridge chip. It supports 2280/2260/2242 NVMe drives and comes with both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables.

In testing with a Samsung 980 512GB inside, I hit 880–910 MB/s sequential read over USB. That's about as good as USB 3.1 Gen 2 gets without a Thunderbolt enclosure. Write speeds were 820–860 MB/s. For the price, these numbers are solid.

The Indian Context

The most common use case I see: someone upgrades from a 512GB NVMe to a 1TB or 2TB drive, and needs somewhere to put the old drive. At ₹1,299–1,499, the ELUTENG case is the easiest answer. You pop the old drive in, and you have a fast external SSD that beats a portable HDD in every way.

During a sustained 40GB file copy in a 34°C room, temperatures inside the enclosure reached 68–71°C by my IR thermometer, and speeds dropped to around 620 MB/s after the first 2–3 minutes. If you're in a coastal city or running transfers during peak afternoon heat, expect the throttling.

The aluminum variant costs slightly more and handles heat marginally better, but it is still passive cooling. Neither version is suitable for intensive sustained transfers in Indian summers without pausing between large operations.
