At that price, the question is not whether it is a premium product - it is not - but whether it offers genuine electrical protection or is just a fancy power strip dressed up as one. The answer matters in India more than in most markets.

Why Surge Protection Is Not Optional in India

India's power grid is not uniform. Urban apartments in Bengaluru or Mumbai may see relatively clean power most of the year. But during monsoon season, a single lightning strike near a transformer can send a spike through the grid before your MCB (miniature circuit breaker) has time to respond. MCBs protect against sustained overcurrent and short circuits - they are not designed to catch a microsecond transient spike. That is what a surge protector's MOV (metal-oxide varistor) is built for.

The gap between those two devices is where expensive hardware gets damaged. BIS certification means the product has been tested to Indian electrical safety standards - it does not guarantee premium performance, but it confirms the unit will not fail catastrophically or create a fire hazard under normal operating conditions. If you are a student or freelancer working from a rented flat in a metro city and your primary concern is routine line noise rather than thunderstorm-adjacent spikes, the ZEB-S401UD will do the job at a price that does not hurt.

It also works as a secondary surge protector - on a second desk, a bedroom workstation, or for charging peripherals that you would not connect to your main build's higher-rated unit.

Who Should Skip It

If your desktop PC represents a meaningful financial investment - anything north of ₹40,000 in components - do not use this as your primary protection. The 630-joule rating is not enough coverage for a full rig during a serious monsoon surge event.
