I've tested this against a mid-range workstation laptop for two weeks. Here's an honest assessment of what the enterprise premium gets you — and where the consumer alternatives close the gap.

Triple Display and Enterprise Architecture

The G5's headline is triple display output: two DP 1.4 ports and one HDMI 2.0, capable of running three external monitors simultaneously on supported hosts. Each DP 1.4 port handles 4K@60Hz with 8-bit colour. The HDMI 2.0 adds a third display at 4K@60Hz.

To use triple display, you need a Thunderbolt 4 laptop. On USB4 hosts, you may be limited to dual display. On USB 3.2 hosts, single display. This isn't a fault of the dock — it's a bandwidth physics reality. HP is clear about this in their documentation.

In practice on a Thunderbolt 4 HP EliteBook, all three displays ran cleanly at 4K@60Hz simultaneously. Running only the laptop screen alongside three external monitors (four total displays) — possible on Thunderbolt 4 — also worked without issues.

USB-A speeds are consistent across all five USB-A 3.0 ports — tested at 420–450 MB/s. The USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 data port (separate from the PD port) hits 850–900 MB/s on a fast NVMe enclosure. The dedicated charging port delivers 15W for phone charging without compromising data port bandwidth.

Gigabit Ethernet on this dock is rock-solid — hit 870 Mbps in real-world testing, with stable connection through a full day of use. The audio jack has an extremely low noise floor — better than budget hubs, matching external soundcards at the entry level.

₹13,999–15,999 is where this dock sits, and the price breaks down like this: you're paying for HP's enterprise support network, Thunderbolt compatibility testing, and a product that's designed to run 8 hours a day, 250 days a year, reliably.

Who Should Skip This

Skip it if you don't have a Thunderbolt 4 laptop. The dock's premium capabilities are inaccessible on USB 3.2 hosts, and you'd be paying ₹14,000+ for HDMI 2.0 performance you could get for ₹5,000.

Skip it if you're an individual user who doesn't need triple display — the Belkin Connect 11-in-1 at ₹9,500–10,500 covers dual 4K@60Hz with better consumer-focused features at lower cost.

Also skip if you need a card reader — the G5 doesn't have one. For card readers + enterprise quality, you'd need to pair it with a separate reader.
