Closing Gigabyte's Z690 Gap on GetPC

This is one of four Z690 boards I'm covering from Gigabyte's lineup in this batch, all firsts for the site. Z690 launched with 12th gen Alder Lake and, because Intel kept the LGA1700 socket through 13th and 14th gen, still runs the i5-12400F, i5-13600KF, and i7-14700K already covered on GetPC. The Aorus Elite AX sits in the middle of Gigabyte's own Z690 hierarchy, above the Gaming X DDR4 and just below the Aorus Pro DDR4.

Why the "AX" Matters

WiFi 6E is the real differentiator here, and it's worth being specific about why. WiFi 6E adds the 6GHz band on top of standard WiFi 6's 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, giving you a less congested spectrum if your router supports it, particularly valuable in apartment buildings or dense urban housing where dozens of neighboring networks crowd the usual bands. If your desk doesn't have an ethernet run and you're on or planning a WiFi 6E router, this board saves you from bolting on a separate WiFi card later.

VRM and Overclocking Range

Beyond the wireless upgrade, the Aorus Elite AX carries a competent mid-tier VRM, comfortably enough for an i5-13600KF running a moderate overclock, and reasonable for an i7-14700K at stock-to-mild boost settings. It's not built for aggressive i9-class overclocking the way the ASRock Z690 Taichi DDR5 is, but for the large majority of gaming and productivity builds on 13th or 14th gen Intel, it's more than sufficient.

DDR4 and the India Cost Angle

Like most of the Z690 boards in this batch, the Aorus Elite AX sticks with DDR4 rather than DDR5, and that's the right call for the Indian market. DDR4 kits remain significantly cheaper than DDR5 here, and the memory savings often matter more to total build cost than the marginal performance difference DDR5 would bring at this price tier. India Pricing and Availability

₹30,999 on Flipkart. That's a clean, single confirmed price point rather than the sale-driven spread you see on the Gaming X DDR4, making it easier to budget around. It sits just below the Aorus Pro DDR4 at ₹32,299, a narrow gap that's worth weighing against whether you need the Pro's stronger VRM.

Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip

Buy this if you want WiFi 6E without paying Aorus Pro prices, you're building an i5-13600KF or i7-14700K system with moderate overclocking ambitions, and DDR4 memory savings matter to your budget.

Skip this if you have ethernet available and don't need WiFi at all, the Gaming X DDR4 at its lower price point covers the same core specs for less money. Also skip this if you want the strongest VRM Gigabyte offers on Z690, that's the Aorus Pro DDR4.
