Why the Plus can matter

The B760M Gaming Plus WiFi DDR4 is a candidate for a DDR4-based Intel build that needs more memory-expansion flexibility than a two-slot Bomber. It also gives a concrete reason to move up when the case has a front Type-C port you intend to use. Those are useful differences; the word Plus is not evidence of a measured gaming advantage.

A builder reusing a good DDR4 kit should compare the additional features against the complete cost of moving to DDR5. Someone buying all-new memory should compare the DDR5 Gaming Plus basket instead of choosing this board in isolation.

Exact DDR4 specification

MSI's exact DDR4 specification lists four DDR4 sockets, two Gen4 x4 storage M.2 connectors, four SATA ports, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and 2.5GbE. The front Type-C connection is 5Gbps, not USB4 or 20Gbps. SATA mode in M2_2 disables SATA8.

The board is micro-ATX and uses LGA1700 for Intel Core 12th/13th/14th-generation CPUs, with BIOS requirements checked per processor. This review is not for the DDR4 II model, the DDR5 Gaming Plus or a Gigabyte board with a similar name.

Four slots are useful, but plan the RAM

Four DIMM sockets make capacity upgrades possible without immediately replacing the original pair. That does not guarantee that four sticks run the same memory profile as two. Match capacity and kit requirements to the actual workload, and avoid buying two separate kits on the assumption that they behave like one validated set.

DDR4 and DDR5 are physically different purchases. Confirm the suffix on the box and invoice before opening a kit. B760 allows memory-profile tuning but not unlocked CPU-multiplier overclocking; buying a K-series CPU does not change that chipset restriction.

PLAN THE BUILD

Front USB-C needs the whole connection

The board’s internal Type-C header is rated at 5Gbps. Connect the matching chassis cable to use the case socket.

The case, cable and external device also need to support the intended connection. Connector shape alone does not establish transfer speed.

For a fast external SSD, compare that requirement against this header and the separate rear-port specification before buying.

Storage, USB-C and expansion

Use the two storage connectors deliberately: they can hold a boot SSD and a games or project SSD without an adapter. If reusing an older SATA M.2 drive, account for the disabled SATA port before wiring several other drives.

For front USB-C, check that the chassis cable matches the internal header. A Type-C connector shape does not establish the transfer rate. Anyone buying specifically for a fast external SSD should compare the required speed against both front and rear USB specifications.

A thick GPU can obstruct lower expansion positions on micro-ATX. Include a capture card, sound card or other add-in hardware in the layout plan before buying.

Verdict

Choose this DDR4 Plus for memory reuse together with four sockets, onboard wireless or the front Type-C header. Skip the premium if a simpler board covers all of those needs, and compare DDR5 costs for a fresh build. This is a documentation-based review, not a VRM stress test or a retailer-price refresh.
