DDR5-6000 CL30 is the number I recommend whenever someone is building on AMD AM5. The reason is tied directly to how AMD's Infinity Fabric works on the AM5 platform.
The AM5 Infinity Fabric Sweet Spot
AMD's AM5 CPUs (Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series) use an Infinity Fabric interconnect that ideally runs in synchronous mode with the memory controller. On AM5, the synchronous ceiling for most chips is 2000 MHz Infinity Fabric — achieved with DDR5-6000 (since Infinity Fabric tracks at half the DDR5 speed: 6000 / 2 = 3000 MHz for the memory controller, but UCLK = MEMCLK/2 at 2000 MHz in 1:1 mode — depending on firmware the exact mapping varies, but the practical result is that DDR5-6000 is the highest speed at which most AM5 chips maintain tight synchronous timing).
Above DDR5-6000, you are pushing into asynchronous territory on most AM5 motherboards without exceptional silicon. The latency penalty from async mode often outweighs the bandwidth gain. DDR5-6400 and above can be beneficial on premium boards with strong CPU IMCs, but DDR5-6000 is the reliable target that delivers near-maximum performance without stability risks.
For the Ryzen 7 9800X3D specifically — where the large 3D V-Cache already reduces memory latency sensitivity — DDR5-6000 is sufficient. Chasing DDR5-7200 on that chip returns very little in games.
CL30 Timings
The CL30 specification on this kit matters. CL (CAS Latency) is the primary timing and represents the number of clock cycles the RAM waits before responding to a command. At DDR5-6000, CL30 is tight — many DDR5-6000 kits ship at CL36 or CL40. CL30 at 6000 MHz means lower absolute latency, which benefits gaming more than raw bandwidth.

Before buying: confirm your AM5 motherboard supports DDR5-6000 via EXPO. Entry-level A620 boards sometimes cap at DDR5-5200 or DDR5-5600 in the official QVL — though DDR5-6000 may still work, it is worth checking the board's memory support list. B650 and X670 boards handle DDR5-6000 without issues.

Any AMD AM5 builder. Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Ryzen 5 7600, Ryzen 7 7700X, Ryzen 9 9900X — all benefit from DDR5-6000 CL30 over slower DDR5 kits. This is my default RAM recommendation for AM5 builds in 2025.
