What This Board Actually Is

ASRock makes a lot of B450 variants and the HDV is the bottom of that stack. Two DDR4 slots (up to 32GB, not four), a single PCIe 3.0 x16 slot for your GPU, basic Realtek audio and LAN, and four SATA3 ports. That's essentially the whole feature list.

The board has one Ultra M.2 socket for compatible SATA M.2 or PCIe NVMe SSDs, including NVMe boot support. ASRock lists up to PCIe Gen3 x4 with supported Ryzen CPUs, or Gen3 x2 with supported A-Series/Athlon processors. Check the exact CPU, drive type and supported drive lengths before buying; this is not a SATA-only board.

The "R4.0" identifies the board revision, not its installed BIOS version. ASRock lists Ryzen 5000 support, but you must check the exact CPU against the R4.0 CPU-support list and confirm that the seller's board has the required BIOS installed. Do not assume a new box guarantees Ryzen 5 5500 or 5600 support out of the box. If you do not have a CPU supported by the installed firmware, ask the retailer to update the BIOS before shipping; do not assume this board has CPU-less BIOS Flashback.

Stock availability can be inconsistent since it's a low-margin SKU that retailers don't always prioritize restocking, so if you find it in stock, that price is worth grabbing quickly.

Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip

Buy this if you're building the tightest possible budget AM4 rig, you're fine running a SATA SSD instead of NVMe, and you just need a board that gets a Ryzen 5 5500 or similar CPU running without extra frills.

Skip this if you need more than one onboard M.2 socket, four RAM slots, or PCIe 4.0. A single compatible NVMe drive is supported, so that alone is not a reason to reject this board. Compare alternatives by the exact model and slot count, not by the earlier incorrect no-M.2 description.
