The Steel Legend Line Finally Gets a Z790 Entry

ASRock's Steel Legend series has a following, and until this gap report, the only Steel Legend board on GetPC was the B760M WiFi. That left a hole: if you wanted the Steel Legend look and build quality on the higher-end Z790 chipset, there was nothing to point to. The Z790 Steel Legend WiFi DDR5 fills that directly, and it happens to be one of the better value picks in ASRock's Z790 range once you look past the badge.

VRM and Storage: Where the Money Went

This is a genuinely well-built board underneath the styling. The 16+1+1 phase VRM uses Renesas ISL99360 Smart Power Stages rated at 60A each, under a two-piece stepped aluminum heatsink design. In independent thermal testing, that setup keeps VRM temperatures around 79°C under sustained load at 28°C ambient, which is comfortable headroom for anything up to a 14900K running a real overclock, not just stock boost behavior.

Storage is the standout spec at this price point. You get one Blazing M.2 slot running full PCIe Gen5x4 (128GB/s), plus three Hyper M.2 slots at Gen4x4, and a dedicated M.2 2230 slot for the WiFi module so it doesn't eat into your storage count. That's four usable NVMe slots total, with proper Gen5 support for anyone planning to run a next-gen SSD now or later.

Networking and Audio

WiFi 6E with Bluetooth is standard here, alongside a 2.5G LAN controller. Audio runs through the usual Realtek ALC897 with Nahimic, which is fine for gaming and general use but not a step up from what you'd get on the Pro RS. If premium audio matters to your build, that's the one area where the Steel Legend doesn't distinguish itself from cheaper ASRock boards.

India Pricing

₹27,500–29,500 at EliteHubs, with PrimeABGB and MDComputers carrying comparable stock. That positions it between the MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk WiFi and MSI MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi, and it holds its own against both on the storage and VRM spec sheet.

Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip

Buy this if you want genuine PCIe 5.0 storage support and strong VRM headroom for a 14700K or 14900K without paying Nova or Taichi Lite pricing.

Skip this if you don't care about Gen5 SSDs and don't need the extra VRM headroom over the Pro RS WiFi, in which case the ₹4,000 savings on the Pro RS is a better use of budget.
