What "Max" Actually Means Here
MSI's "Max" refresh increased BIOS chip capacity, but "Max" does not guarantee that the installed firmware supports every Ryzen 5000 CPU. Before buying new or secondhand, check MSI's support list for your exact CPU and ask the seller which BIOS version is installed. A Ryzen 5 5600 or Ryzen 7 5800X may require an update. This board has a Flash BIOS Button; if an update is needed, follow MSI's documented procedure for the exact B450 Tomahawk Max model or have the retailer perform it. Do not assume an earlier Ryzen CPU is always required.
Beyond that, the Tomahawk name carries real weight in MSI's lineup. This isn't a stripped-back budget board wearing a nicer heatsink, it's built with what MSI calls "military class" components: better capacitors, a beefier VRM with extended heatsinks, and a Steel Armor PCIe slot to stop your GPU from sagging and tearing the connector over time. One storage M.2 socket and six SATA3 ports round out the storage side.
Still B450, Still No PCIe 4.0
Worth repeating even on the nicest board in this tier: B450 caps out at PCIe 3.0 on the storage M.2 socket and the GPU slot. The Tomahawk Max's VRM strength is about power delivery to the CPU, not storage or GPU bandwidth. If PCIe 4.0 NVMe speeds matter to your build, no B450 board gets you there, you need B550 at minimum.

Pricing spans ₹10,150 to ₹15,148 between Computech Store and Flipkart, which is a wide gap for the same board. Flipkart pricing fluctuates more with sales and flash deals, Computech Store tends to sit closer to the lower end of that range consistently. Skip this if your CPU is a Ryzen 5 5500 or 5600, the ASRock B450M Steel Legend or ASRock B450 Steel Legend ATX give you enough VRM headroom for those CPUs at a lower price. Also skip if PCIe 4.0 is non-negotiable for your build.
