ASUS ROG Scabbard II Extended Review India 2026 — Water-Resistant Mousepad Worth It?
ASUS ROG Scabbard II Extended — India Review 2026
The ROG Scabbard II is ASUS's answer to a genuinely Indian concern: what happens to your mousepad when you spill chai on it? The Scabbard II has a water-resistant surface treatment — ASUS calls it "nano-coating" — that makes spills bead up and wipe off rather than soaking in.
At ₹2,299–2,699 for the extended size (900 x 300mm), it's one of the more practical buys in this category for Indian conditions. Whether that water resistance justifies the price over a standard cloth pad depends on your desk habits.
Surface Feel and Durability
The Scabbard II's surface is a medium-speed cloth with a smooth finish. The nano-coating gives it a slightly different texture than uncoated cloth — it feels marginally more plastic-like to touch, but the mouse tracking experience is clean. Sensor performance is fine across all mainstream optical sensors.
The water resistance is real and functional. A full glass of water spilled on the Scabbard II beads up and can be wiped away without any soaking. The same applies to sweat accumulation — in Indian summers, a sweat-resistant surface means the pad stays cleaner and doesn't start smelling as quickly as uncoated cloth. This is the Scabbard II's practical advantage and it's a genuine one.
The extended format (900 x 300mm) covers keyboard and mouse together on most standard desks. The ROG branding is present but subtle — a diagonal red line and ROG eye logo — understated by gaming peripheral standards.
The rubber base is solid. Edge stitching is clean and consistent. One note on the nano-coating: it does wear over time, especially at the most-used area under the mouse. After 18+ months, the water resistance in the centre of the pad is reduced. The edges stay coated longer. Overall durability is good — the coating degrading is expected, not a defect.
India Availability and Value
ASUS has one of the strongest retail networks in India. The ROG Scabbard II Extended is available at MDComputers, PrimeABGB, Vedant Computers, Amazon India, Flipkart, and even some Croma stores. Finding it is easier than most specialty gaming pads.
At ₹2,299–2,699, it's very reasonable for an extended mat with a unique feature. Compared to the Corsair MM300 PRO Extended at ₹3,699–4,299, the Scabbard II delivers 80% of the functionality at half the price.
Who Should Buy the Scabbard II
Buy this if you want an extended desk mat with practical water resistance. Ideal for people who drink at their desk, have pets, or game in shared family spaces where accidents happen. For a family-shared gaming build, see /builds/T03. Also a strong choice for ASUS ecosystem setups where ROG aesthetic consistency matters.
Who Should Skip It
Skip this if you want pure surface performance — the coating adds a slightly different feel that some competitive players find subtly less satisfying than uncoated cloth. The HyperX Fury S or Corsair MM300 PRO are better for pure performance.
Skip it if you want RGB — the Scabbard II is non-RGB. For a lit extended pad, look at the Razer Goliathus Chroma Extended or Cybeart Aurora RGB.
Questions
Genuinely effective for liquid spills — water, tea, coffee all bead up and wipe clean. The coating doesn't make the pad invincible; abrasive cleaning or harsh solvents will damage it. Use a damp cloth wipe for cleaning, not soap or alcohol.
Slightly — the coating makes the surface minimally faster and slightly less textured than uncoated cloth. For most players this is imperceptible. Competitive players sensitive to surface texture may notice it.
The water resistance helps with accidental spills but won't prevent moisture accumulation under the pad if your desk is in a very humid space. Keep the desk dry and the rubber base won't develop mold. The surface itself is fine in humidity.
