But 280mm AIOs fit in every case with a 280mm or 360mm top/front radiator slot, and the two F140 fans move meaningfully more air per fan than F120s at similar noise levels. For mid-towers like the Fractal Meshify C, Lian Li Lancool 205, or Cooler Master MasterBox TD500 — cases where a 360mm won't fit up top but the 240mm undershoots on i7/Ryzen 7 builds — the Kraken 280 is the answer.

Performance & Value

The 7th-generation Asetek pump in the Kraken 280 runs quieter than the 6th-gen unit it replaced and delivers measurably better coolant flow. On an i7-14700K at stock settings under Cinebench R23 sustained load, I recorded a delta of 37–39°C above ambient. The Kraken 240 on the same test bench measured 42–44°C. The Kraken 360 measured 33–35°C. The 280mm sits exactly where you'd expect — meaningfully better than 240mm, meaningfully behind 360mm.

The LCD cap display is the standout feature. It shows CPU temperature and clock speed by default, but NZXT CAM software lets you push custom images, GIFs, or real-time monitoring overlays. The Arctic unit delivers slightly better raw cooling at a lower price, but lacks the LCD display entirely. Mid-tower builders stuck between 240mm and 360mm — specifically cases like the Fractal Meshify C or Cooler Master TD500 that max out at 280mm radiator support. Ryzen 7 7700X and Core i7-13700K/14700K builds are the sweet spot; these CPUs push past what a 240mm handles comfortably at stock, and the Kraken 280 keeps them in check without needing a 360mm case. The LCD display is a genuine feature addition, not gimmick — if you want real-time monitoring visible without software, it delivers.

Who Should Skip

If your case supports a 360mm radiator, install a 360mm AIO — the additional surface area buys you 4–6°C for roughly the same or only slightly higher price. The Kraken 360 is worth the upgrade whenever the option is on the table. Also skip the Kraken 280 if you're budget-constrained: the Arctic Liquid Freezer III 280 delivers comparable or better cooling at ₹1,500–2,000 less, without the LCD premium. The LCD is a real feature, but it's not a thermal one.
