It packs 10 cores (6 Performance-cores with hyperthreading, 4 Efficiency-cores without) for 16 threads total, boosts up to 4.7GHz, and runs a sensible 65W base / 148W max turbo power envelope. It drops into any LGA1700 motherboard and works with either DDR4 or DDR5, depending on which board you pick, which is one of the last mainstream sockets in India still giving you that flexibility.

None of that is different from the i5-14400F, which our site already covers and which is the far more common recommendation in "budget gaming build" threads. The entire reason this article exists is the one spec that does differ: the i5-14400 has Intel UHD 730 graphics on die, and the F doesn't.

2. A safety net if your dGPU dies or needs RMA. Discrete GPUs do fail, and Indian RMA timelines through channel partners can stretch to weeks. With an iGPU, you're never staring at a completely dead PC in the meantime, you just plug the monitor into the motherboard.
3. Budget builds where the GPU purchase gets delayed. Not everyone buys the whole PC in one shot. If there's a real chance the GPU comes three months later, the F variant is a trap, you'd have no display output at all until then.
4. Office and HTPC builds with no discrete GPU planned. Some builds never get a dGPU on purpose. For a home office machine, a media center PC, or a budget productivity build, the i5-14400 is simply the correct chip, full stop.

The price gap between the two SKUs in India usually lands somewhere in the ₹2,000-₹3,000 range, small money against the peace of mind of having a working display output no matter what happens to your graphics card.

Budget H610 or B760 boards pair naturally with the i5-14400. If you go DDR4, you can find boards for ₹6,000-₹9,000, which is the cheapest way to build around this chip. DDR5 B760 boards run ₹9,000-₹13,000 and give you more upgrade headroom down the line. Either way, this chip is a strong anchor for the sub-₹60,000 gaming PC segment, which remains one of the biggest categories of builds in India.

Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip

Buy this if: you're staging your build and the GPU is arriving later, you want insurance against a dead or RMA'd graphics card, or you're building an office/HTPC machine with no discrete GPU planned at all. It's also a sensible pick if you just don't want to think about display output ever being a problem.

Skip this if: you already have your GPU in hand and know it's reliable. In that case the i5-14400F does the exact same job for ₹2,000-₹3,000 less, and you'll never touch the iGPU anyway.
