Where this board makes sense

The A520M K V2 is worth considering for an inexpensive AM4 replacement or an office PC built around a Ryzen APU. Its attraction is keeping the motherboard simple, not providing an upgrade-heavy gaming platform. If you already own compatible DDR4 and a supported CPU, replacing a failed board can be more sensible than buying a completely new platform.

For a fresh build, compare the complete CPU, motherboard and memory basket against a B550 alternative before ordering. A low board price alone is not a reason to accept storage or expansion limits you will immediately outgrow. This is a specification-based assessment, not a hands-on thermal or performance test.

Exact model and revision

The reference here is Gigabyte's A520M K V2 revision 1.1 specification. It identifies an AM4 micro-ATX board with two DDR4 slots, one storage M.2 connector supporting SATA or PCIe 3.0 drives, four SATA connectors and Gigabit ethernet. It does not include wireless networking. Do not substitute specifications from the original A520M K or an A520M S2H.

The listed firmware utility is Q-Flash, not Q-Flash Plus. That distinction matters when the installed BIOS cannot recognise your CPU: do not assume you can update this board with no working processor. Ask the seller to confirm the PCB revision and BIOS support before paying.

Plan the memory, drives and case first

With only two memory sockets, buying a matched pair at the capacity you actually need avoids a later replacement of both sticks. A single stick may be cheaper initially, but it is a poor starting point for a memory-sensitive integrated-graphics build. Do not buy DDR5 for this board.

The one onboard M.2 slot is enough for a straightforward boot-and-games drive. If your plan calls for two NVMe SSDs, choose a different board instead of discovering the limitation after assembly. Check the case fan wiring too: a small basic board can require a powered fan hub when the case has several fans. Count headers and check their current limits rather than connecting every fan to one splitter.

Check the whole reuse plan

A pair of DDR4 sticks fills both sockets. If it is too small for your workload, include a replacement kit in the build cost.

One onboard M.2 drive uses the sole socket. A second NVMe drive needs a different expansion plan or another board.

The motherboard display ports require a CPU with integrated graphics; an AM4 CPU without graphics needs a discrete GPU.

Reasons to choose B550 instead

Choose a compatible B550 board if you specifically need PCIe 4.0, another onboard NVMe connector or more expansion flexibility. A520 is not a CPU-overclocking platform. Neither a faster SSD label nor a gaming-branded case removes those limitations.

Before buying

Use the exact revision's CPU support list, verify the included accessories and get an invoice with a clear warranty route. Motherboard HDMI works only with a processor that supplies integrated graphics; an AM4 CPU without graphics still needs a discrete GPU. No fresh retailer quote is asserted in this review.
