Smaller Board, Higher Tier

This is the second Gigabyte B660 board I'm covering, and it sits in an interesting spot relative to the first. The B660 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 is Gigabyte's mainstream full ATX option. This board, the B660M Aorus Pro AX WiFi DDR4, is mATX, physically smaller, but it's actually a step up in Gigabyte's own internal hierarchy. Aorus Pro sits above Aorus Elite in finish quality and VRM design, even though the "M" in the name tells you it's the compact version.

That's a slightly unusual pattern for people used to assuming bigger board equals better board, so it's worth being explicit about it: on Gigabyte's B660 stack specifically, Aorus Pro AX beats Aorus Elite AX on power delivery quality, it's just built for mATX cases instead of ATX towers.

Where the Extra ₹2,400 Goes

The Aorus Pro AX runs a digital VRM design, which gives more consistent voltage regulation under sustained load than the Elite AX's setup. For a Core i5-13400F or i5-14400F running multi-threaded workloads for extended periods, whether that's video encoding, compiling, or just heavy multitasking, the better VRM means steadier clocks and lower VRM temperatures over time. You still can't overclock the CPU multiplier on B660, that restriction is chipset-wide regardless of which board you buy, but VRM quality affects thermal headroom and stability at stock and XMP-tuned settings too.

You typically get three M.2 slots on this board versus two on the Elite AX, all with heatsink coverage, which matters if you're planning a two-drive or three-drive NVMe setup down the line, something increasingly common as game install sizes climb. WiFi 6 and 2.5GbE carry over from the Elite AX, so you're not losing networking capability by going compact.

The BIOS Update Question Still Applies

Like every B660 board, this one natively supports 12th-gen CPUs and needs a BIOS update for 13th and 14th-gen non-K chips like the Core i5-13400F and i5-14400F. This trips up first-time builders more often than you'd expect, someone buys an older-stock B660 board, pairs it with a newer CPU they picked up separately, and gets no display because the board doesn't recognize the chip yet. Gigabyte's Q-Flash Plus lets you flash the BIOS without a CPU or even without a GPU installed on many of their boards, so check whether this model supports that before you're stuck troubleshooting blind. And as with every B660 board, there's no CPU multiplier overclocking here, DDR4 XMP tuning is where your tuning options end.

Buy this if you want Gigabyte's best B660 VRM and don't need full ATX, you're running triple-NVMe storage plans, or your case is mATX-sized and you still want top-tier power delivery for a Core i5-13400F or i5-14400F.

Skip this if ₹2,400 is a meaningful chunk of your budget and you don't need the third M.2 slot or the digital VRM headroom, in which case the B660 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 gets you WiFi 6 and 2.5GbE for less, just in full ATX and with a slightly lower VRM tier.
