If your PC sits next to your router or you're running ethernet through the wall already, that WiFi module is dead weight you're paying for elsewhere — this board skips it.

It sits at the bottom of ASUS's Z690 stack: Prime (this board, mainstream/value) below TUF Gaming (durability-focused mid-range), ROG Strix (premium gaming), and ROG Maximus (extreme overclocking flagship). Being at the bottom of that stack isn't a knock — Z690's chipset-level features (PCIe 5.0 readiness, overclocking support, decent I/O) are present here too, ASUS just strips the extras that add cost without changing core performance.

What You Get for the Price

A 12+1 power stage VRM handles a Core i5-12400F or i5-13400F without issue, and copes fine with an i7 at stock. Three M.2 slots and a PCIe 5.0 x16 primary slot mean you're not missing out on storage or GPU headroom versus the pricier Z690 boards — those upgrades happen at the CPU/VRM and audio/RGB level, not at the fundamental I/O level. DDR4 support up to 128GB across four DIMM slots covers any realistic build.

The trade-off versus the WiFi variant is exactly what you'd expect: no wireless networking. Everything else — VRM, storage, PCIe lanes, LAN — is the same board underneath.

India Pricing and the WiFi Trade-Off

At ₹23,500-26,000 on Flipkart, the price gap to the Prime Z690-P WiFi D4 is small enough that it's worth checking both listings on the day you buy — sometimes retailer promotions close the gap entirely, in which case just get the WiFi version for the flexibility. But if the ₹1,000-1,500 saving holds and you're on ethernet, this is genuinely the smarter buy.

Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip

Buy this if you're on wired ethernet, have DDR4 RAM already, and want the lowest-cost path onto Z690 with a Core i5-class CPU.

Skip this if you need WiFi (get the Prime Z690-P WiFi D4 instead), or you're buying RAM fresh and should consider DDR5 on the Prime Z690-A DDR5 for a longer upgrade runway.
