The Board Most Budget Builds Should Actually Use

ASRock's B550 lineup in India has a lot of overlapping SKUs, and it's easy to pick the wrong one just by price. The B550M Pro4 at ₹9,000 sits between the stripped-down B550M-HDV (₹6,499) and the full ATX B550 PRO4 (₹12,200), and for most mATX gaming builds, it's the one to actually buy.

Unlike the HDV, you get all four DDR4 DIMM slots (up to 128GB supported), so there's real upgrade room for RAM later. You also get two M.2 slots instead of one, the first running PCIe 4.0 directly off the CPU for your boot drive, the second PCIe 3.0 off the chipset for a secondary drive. Six SATA ports handle any spinning or SATA SSD storage you want to add.

VRM and What It Can Actually Run

Power delivery here is a step up from the HDV and roughly matches the full-size B550 PRO4's approach, just in mATX form. A Ryzen 5 5600 runs comfortably with headroom, and a Ryzen 7 5700X is fine at stock too. I'd stop there, if you're eyeing a 5800X3D or 5900X, that's a job for the B550 Steel Legend or one of the Gigabyte Aorus Pro boards with beefier Dr. MOS power stages.

mATX vs Full ATX: Does It Matter Here?

Honestly, for most home builds it doesn't. Unless you're running multiple expansion cards (a capture card plus a sound card, say), mATX gives you everything a budget-to-mid gaming build needs in a smaller, often cheaper case. The only reason to pay the extra ₹3,200 for the full ATX B550 PRO4 is if you specifically want a bigger case or extra PCIe slots.

Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip

Buy this if you're building a budget-to-mid Ryzen 5 5600 or 5700X gaming PC in an mATX case and want RAM upgrade room the HDV doesn't give you.

Skip this if you need full ATX expansion slots (get the B550 PRO4) or you're running a 5800X3D/5900X (get the Steel Legend).
