Gigabyte B550M Gaming X WiFi6 Review: Radio and SSD Revision Checks
Evidence and price dates: Specifications rechecked on 11 October 2026 using the exact-model source linked below. Existing price examples are historical observations from the original May/July 2026 check, not current quotes or confirmed stock. This is a documentation-based buying assessment, not hands-on testing.
The WiFi 6 Angle
The revision 1.0/1.1 specification lists a Realtek RTL8851BE WiFi 6 module with 80MHz support and Bluetooth 5.3, not a generic Intel-or-MediaTek module. It is WiFi 6, not 6E. Check the printed revision before selecting drivers or assuming another revision's radio.
Wireless can be useful when there is no ethernet run, but the WiFi 6 label does not guarantee lower latency or higher actual throughput. Router capabilities, signal and antenna positioning remain important. Gigabit ethernet is an alternative when a cable is practical.
VRM and General Build Quality
The exact revision lists four DDR4 sockets, two storage M.2 connectors and four SATA ports. The primary supports Gen4 with compatible CPUs; the secondary is Gen3 x2, not another x4 link. This is not proof of identical power delivery or measured performance to the AORUS Elite.
*Aorus Pro AC pricing looks inflated and needs re-verification, see that board's own writeup for details.
Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip
Buy this if you need WiFi 6 specifically for a crowded wireless network or a desk without ethernet, and you're building around a Ryzen 7 5700X or similar.
Skip this if ethernet already covers your needs or another exact model provides the required storage links at a better complete cost. Do not assume AORUS Elite is the same non-wireless design or always cheaper.
Exact-model buying checks
A Ryzen 5 5500 or an AM4 APU does not create a Gen4 link just because the board uses B550. Match the selected processor to the manufacturer's lane notes before buying a faster SSD or assuming GPU bandwidth. The secondary Gen3 x2 storage slot is useful for capacity but should not be sold as equal to the primary. Q-Flash Plus is documented for this revision; use the proper file and procedure. For a reused DDR4 kit, check capacity and compatibility; for a fresh build, compare a whole AM5 alternative rather than an old board-price chart.
Source: manufacturer specification for this exact model. Check its CPU support list and the installed BIOS before assembly. An article update is not a retailer-price refresh; use dated offers and confirm the invoice, stock and warranty with the seller.

Questions
For most single-user gaming, the difference is small, both handle online gaming fine on a decent connection. WiFi 6 shows its advantage more in busy networks with many connected devices or when transferring large files wirelessly.
That range is a historical July 2026 observation. It does not establish today's price spread or the reason each seller differed. Check exact model, revision, condition and warranty instead of assuming every difference is a sale.
No, it'll connect to any WiFi router. You just won't get WiFi 6 speeds unless your router also supports the standard.
