Why Steel Legend Sits Above the Rest of ASRock's B550 Lineup

I've now covered five other ASRock B550 boards on GetPC (PRO4, B550M-HDV, B550M Pro4, Phantom Gaming 4, and Phantom Gaming 4/ac), and every one of them is built around the same idea: get you onto B550 as cheaply as possible. Steel Legend is a different animal. It's ASRock's line that exists specifically to give you near-X570 build quality without the X570 price tag or the higher power draw of the older chipset.

The headline upgrade is the VRM. Steel Legend uses ASRock's Dr. MOS power stages with a proper finned heatsink design across the power delivery area, not the smaller heatsinks or bare MOSFETs you get on the budget boards. That matters because it's the difference between a board that survives a Ryzen 5 5600 and a board that can actually sustain a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or 5900X under long gaming sessions or all-core workloads without thermal throttling the power stages.

What Else You Get

Beyond VRM, Steel Legend brings a 2.5G LAN controller (double the throughput of the Gigabit LAN on every cheaper ASRock B550 board here), a better ALC1200 audio codec, and ASRock's grey-and-steel aesthetic that's genuinely one of the more understated looks in this price range if you're not into RGB-heavy builds. Two M.2 slots remain, one PCIe 4.0 off the CPU and one PCIe 3.0 off the chipset, both with heatsinks this time, useful since NVMe drives can run hot under sustained load.

VRM Headroom for Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 5900X

This is the real reason to pick Steel Legend over the cheaper ASRock boards. The 5800X3D and 5900X pull meaningfully more current under sustained load than a 5600 or 5700X, and the smaller VRM designs on the PRO4 or Phantom Gaming boards will run hotter and, over time, throttle under that load. Steel Legend's Dr. MOS stages and heatsinking give you the margin to run either chip without worrying about power delivery thermals during long gaming sessions.

Where It Sits Against Gigabyte's Competition

At ₹13,949, Steel Legend lands right between the Gigabyte B550M Gaming X WiFi6 (₹12,100-17,800) and below the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro V2 (₹16,035). If 2.5G LAN and ASRock's styling appeal to you, Steel Legend is competitive. Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip

Buy this if you're running a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or 5900X and want real VRM headroom without X570 pricing, or you want 2.5G LAN for a fast home network.

Skip this if you're on a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5700X (the cheaper Phantom Gaming 4 handles those fine) or you need built-in WiFi (this SKU doesn't have it).
